E-commerce is short for electronic commerce, denoting the act of buying or selling on the Internet.

This year, 63% of global Internet usersare expected to purchase products online.

By 2020, 65% of global Internet users are forecasted to be online shoppers, which amounts to 2 billion people.

You know what that translates to in terms of sales in 2020? A whopping 4.1 trillion US dollarsin retail e-commerce sales worldwide!

With such a large user base, and the sales potential that comes with it, it is essential to offer an effective, seamless, and enjoyable online shopping experience.

That’s where the role of UX design comes in.

UX design covers many details that exert a huge influence on the success of a company’s e-commerce enterprise.

Such details include how products and services are presented and displayed, how easy it is to navigate between different products and categories, how easy it is to finalize an order, and other order execution and navigation commands.

Calls to action are buttons that will guide your visitors throughout their shopping experience.

Make sure your calls to action are visible and prominent.

Easy Product Searching and Filtering

It should be easy for the users of your website or application to search products and filter them based on the criteria of their choice.

The ability to use many filters at once is an added bonus.

Trustworthy Social Proof

Allow your customers to leave comments and ratings, which will most definitely influence the buying decisions of other customers.

People love to read about others’ experiences with a product before buying it.

Seamless Purchase Experience

This covers everything from showing all costs (the product’s and the delivery’s) upfront, to supporting major payment options, to facilitating the placing of orders without the burden of creating an account first.

UX design for e-commerce is a multifaceted process, so you need to prepare a well-thought action plan to implement all the previously mentioned tips.
